Interview Advice: Be Proactive
Being proactive is a common requirement in job descriptions.
How to demonstrate proactiveness in an interview?
✅ Start leveraging Google search.
✅ Do your research and prepare.
✅ Showing that you’ve done your research is a proactive skill.
There are so many times I’ll ask candidates what they know about a company, product, game, or service and I get answers like:
❌ I didn’t know ______ existed.
❌ I don’t know where to find ______.
❌ I didn’t see marketing about ______.
❌ I was hoping to learn more about it at this interview.
Now think, what if your manager asked you the above questions? How do those answers sound? 🤔
👉🏼 You need to come prepared.
Now, there is a difference between not knowing something on the spot vs having the opportunity and time to do research. If you’re invited for an interview, you have time to do some Google searches to find information. It shows preparedness and mindfulness for the task and conversations ahead.
It is not enough to say that you use the product, use the service, played the game, watched the movie, etc. I didn’t get my jobs because I watched all the Star Wars movies and binge Netflix. Tie in the business to your interest and how your skills will drive impact for the business goals.
