How to make sure you’ve got the experience for the job
People will look at job descriptions and say they have the experience it’s looking for.
🔥 But here’s a tip to make sure you really do 🔥
Think about the depth and breadth of your experience.
If the JD is looking for experience working with cross-functional teams:
➡️ What cross-functional teams have you worked with?
➡️ What items/projects/tasks did you need to deliver to them?
➡️ How often were you engaging with them during your work day?
💡 How critical was your relationship with them and what does it impact?
If the JD is looking for experience leading projects:
➡️ How big were the projects you’ve led and what did they mean for the company?
➡️ How many people were on the team and were you managing anyone?
➡️ What kind of constraints did you have to work against and how did you overcome them?
💡 What parts of the projects did you influence, change, and make an impact on?
If the JD is looking for excellent communication skills:
➡️ What variety of people do you typically communicate with?
➡️ How are you effectively building partnerships and relationships?
➡️ Have you given and received constructive feedback?
💡 When did you have to communicate a piece of critical information?

In these above examples, I believe 99% of people have this experience, but what sets you apart is showing the DEMONSTRATED experience, how WIDE the experience is, how DEEP you executed the skills, and lastly, its IMPACT.
Recruiters and hiring managers don’t want easy, surface-level answers. They want to hear how you’ve gone above and beyond. What can set you apart is how you approach common skills.
