Tips for starting to post content and building your brand.
When I decided I wanted to start creating content on LinkedIn, the advice I got was…
🗣 “Just start posting”
📣 “Just do it”
📢 “Hit post and see what happens”
Overall, the main theme I got was just to jump in.
This advice isn’t bad, but I know why it can make people more anxious about starting. It feels like taking the leap and not truly knowing where you’ll land. So while I share the same sentiment and want to tell people, “just do it” when they ask me about starting their journey, I'll provide something more practical.
🤷🏻♀️ What’s your why?
Find your reason for creating and posting. Creating with purpose helps confirm what you want to achieve, who you want to target, and keeps a gut check that you’ll enjoy doing it. Who and what you want to be known for is a great starting question.
📚 Consume content
Maybe you already have ideas and topics you want to cover, but getting inspiration never hurts. I believe the right balance of consuming content can unlock deeper ideas you can build on and define the voice you want to be known for.
☀️ Do content your way
Want to post on LinkedIn, but you’re way more comfortable creating and posting content on a different platform? Go there and do it there. Never feel pressured to create in spaces you’re feeling unsure about. Start where you’re comfortable.
👩🏻🔬 Feeling bold? Experiment.
If you’re looking to get out of your comfort zone, explore what other styles you can present content. Written, videos, blogs, newsletters, podcasts, streaming, etc. Try and see the results.
🦋 Change. Adapt. Evolve.
Change and reiterate all you want and as you need. No one knows your content more than you so don’t feel pressured to keep things the same. Committed to posting every day and it’s too much? Post once a week. Committed to doing videos and not in the mood to be on camera? Record audio or do written content.
Putting yourself out there can be uncomfortable and scary, but do yourself a favor and build your foundation. If you decide to take the leap, I hope you land back on one of these. But of course, I only hope you FLY 🧚🏼♀️
