Sometimes the job search into the games industry is played in hard mode.

My initial career goal, the objective, the path, was always to land in the entertainment industry ๐ŸŽฅ๐ŸŽฌ

Call this my main quest โš”๏ธ

I applied and networked hard. I knew that I had to know people. I also honed in on my skills, stayed curious, and asked for opportunities to keep adding to my toolkit.

The long game paid off and I was able to get into the entertainment industry and land some dream companies as well.

The end of my main quest was wrapping up ๐ŸŒ…

But then! ๐Ÿšจ A wild new side story appeared! ๐Ÿšจ

The networking, the applying, the work, and my reputation unlocked the next great adventure. A career in games!

I get asked a lot about how I ended up in games and why I chose it. To be honest, I applied because I wanted to move from being a coordinator to a recruiter. The opportunity showed itself as a role in the gaming industry. Iโ€™m not a hardcore gamer, but I played what I could and kept up with the trend of gaming being a form of entertainment. I saw an opportunity to make my skillset relevant to a new industry.

I also had coworkers and friends who vouched for me and felt I could thrive in the industry. Colleagues who were friends with other colleagues in the industry spoke about my work ethic, passion, and drive to learn.

Iโ€™m thankful for those who took care and interest in me, but the real work started when I was in. I knew recruiting, but doing it in a new industry was the next learning and I made sure I knew my craft.

I think some people want to hear the story of daring lightsaber fights and heroic sacrifices to my journey in entertainment and games, but this was the formula:

Apply. Network. Learn. Make my own opportunities. Upskill. Never back down. Willing to stay in the game.
