Types of Gaming Jobs

Some question I’ve gotten about my career in gaming.

💟 “Do I need to play games or be creative to work in the industry? 🥺”

Not at all! If you don’t play but are still passionate about the industry, are captivated, curious, hungry to learn about it, and proactively seek out information about games and gaming, that attitude can steer you in the right direction. And there are so many roles in the gaming industry! Not all are creative or ones that directly “touch the game”. I love this list from Hitmarker! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

💟 Do you play games and do you think that helped you with your career?

I grew up playing video games which is why I love them, but I actually stopped playing them for most of my adult life and have only returned to them recently. I don’t spend as much time on them as I’d like though. Similar to the question above, I don’t think it was directly playing video games that helped with my career, but how much I love games in general. My background is also in film/entertainment so I see it through the lens of providing people with fun and unique experiences. I’m obsessed with the industry and I have a hunger to keep learning about it, keep up with trends, and learn from people in it. As a recruiter, I personally want to bring in all kinds of people with every kind of background and unique skillset because I believe that’s how all kinds of games can be made for everyone! So TL;DR, sure! Games have somewhat helped me with my career 🥹
