Constructing interview answers
But what do I SAAYYY??? 🗣
How do I say that? 🤷🏻♀️
What words can I use to say that? 😶
How do I translate my experience? 🧮
I get these questions sometimes when I’m mentoring for interview prep.
Unfortunately, I can’t construct the answer for you.
I don’t know your experience. I don’t know what you’ve done in your day-to-day, what projects you’ve been put on, what deliverables are expected from you, what metrics you’re being measured against, etc.
And your answers shouldn’t be so rehearsed that you need them prepared down to the words you’re using. I encourage you to not sound robotic. Having authentic answers is best! ✨
But here are 2 things I can give you today:
1️⃣ STRUCTURE
Experience > Skills > Context > Actions > Impact > Learning
What was the experience? What skills are you highlighting? What context does this experience have to the role? What actions did you do? What impact did that experience have? What did you learn?
2️⃣ TRACKING
I see that people have trouble finding an answer or an example because they haven’t tracked their work. So if you haven’t started writing down all your skills, projects, deadlines, collaborations, etc, start NOW! This makes it easier to construct examples and answers to common interview questions.
