Think you’ve been ghosted? 👻 Do’s and don’ts - from the recruiter’s perspective 💡

DO:

✅ Follow up.
For cadence, start every 2 weeks, then once a week (This part can be very subjective, use your judgment too). Share your continued excitement about the opportunity and say your thanks. You don’t lose anything by being genuinely kind. Feel free to also let the recruiter know if your timeline is changing (you’re moving forward with another interview, received an offer elsewhere, etc).
✅ Have self-awareness.
Reflect on your interview and accept the reality of what you did really well on + what areas you could improve. Applaud your strengths and act on the improvements.
✅ Move on, but move up!
Take the learnings and keep going for yourself. Don’t let the ghosting stop you. Yes, it sucks, but only you can control what happens next. So do yourself the favor and keep up-leveling, up-skilling, networking, strategizing in your job search, etc. Resiliency is your friend.

DON’T:

❌ Don’t let your emotions get the best of you.
Remember, no matter what, your actions are a reflection of YOU, even if the other person’s action sucks. Feel what you need and embrace it, but pick yourself up.
❌ Don’t go on a tirade.
Sending an email to the recruiter to badmouth them, badmouthing about a recruiter on LinkedIn or on a public forum, or going after their boss or company, will do NOTHING for you. You start burning a bridge to any connection and opportunity with this.
❌ Don’t become resentful.
In addition to the above point, don’t blanket that every recruiter on the planet ghosts or provides bad experiences. There are helpful recruiters out there and we hate when people bash the entire profession. We can find each other and everyone can experience a great recruiting process.
